Richard Frederick is an award winning photographer who has been making photographs for over 30 years. His passion for photography during many of those years was shared with a career in engineering. The dual disciplines of science and photography are altogether complimentary and provide his depth of understanding in the use of photographic science and basic tools to produce captivating works of photographic art. That art is only possible - no matter how "Good" the tools - when the artist has accumulated the knowledge and ability from years of experience to see and capture his subject matter in extraordinary light. This acquired craft permits a broad range of subject matter to be used in the making of fine art photographic prints and does not restrict the artist to any particular genre, of which there are many. Richard is currently producing fine art prints in Black and White, Color, and Platinum/Palladium. He prefers the dynamic quality of natural light and thus finds most of his subject matter out of doors. He prefers subjects, be they natural or man-made, that have some historical significance but - as always - must be seen in extraordinary light at the time of capture. Many of his fine art images have resulted from extensive travel, both in the US and abroad.

Richard's work has previously been shown at the Gallery North and in juried shows at the Smithtown Arts Council Gallery, Long Island, NY; the Mirror Pond Gallery, the Hang Gallery, and Atelier6000 Gallery, Bend, OR; the Cottonwood Gallery, Coos Bay, OR; and in numerous restaurants, businesses, and private collections. He regularly participates in one man and group shows throughout the Northwest.

His work has been published in "Bend Living" magazine and in issues of "Arts and Entertainment" magazine in Central Oregon. Richard conducts small group, intensive photographic workshops and private Photoshop for Photographers workshops. He taught photography at Central Oregon Community College for many years.
