Pam Jersey Bird pamjerseybird

Pam Jersey Bird's paintings engage the senses and provide a new experience of the familiar. Known for their complex harmony of color and surface texture they are sought after by designers of contemporary spaces, as well as by homeowners looking for a compliment to realistic artwork. Her imagery originates in observation yet she paints from imagination. She wants to take her paintings beyond realistic portrayal from what is perceived to what is experienced.

Pam has always appreciated and been drawn to artists who are working to stretch the boundaries of traditional art. As a teenager she loved to spend the day in Manhattan visiting museums such as MOMA, The Whitney and The Guggenheim and she relished viewing the current exhibits of contemporary artists. While working toward her degree in art education she immersed herself in traditional drawing and painting and studied the history of art yet still found herself drawn toward the abstract.

Later, when Pam moved to the West Coast, she found that the natural beauty that now surrounded her informed and guided her work. She takes inspiration from her environment for her mixed-media paintings. The landscape is a metaphor for Bird. She seeks to capture the essence of nature and Spirit through interpretation and simplification of organic natural forms. Birds work integrates realistic and abstract elements through a process of layering of materials including handmade papers; gold leaf; pastels; and acrylic and oil paint.
