Cheri thrives on experimenting with various textures and colors, specifically working with the clay as it displays on walls and not just on horizontal surfaces. The majority of her work in her recent portfolio she fondly calls her shirt box murals. She has been focusing on the use of recycled clay by mixing it with shredded paper and pouring it into shirt boxes. Sometimes she lines the bottom of the boxes with organic material such as rice and sunflower seeds, or use an assortment of fabrics and yarns for texture. The pieces slowly dry for several months, biscuit fired, then fired with glazes, raku or barrel fired. The final touch of beads, wires or organic material are then added as needed. Her color pallet is drawn from water and sky scapes, as well as tapping into the earth tones as they relate to the clay. Each of these wall murals is totally unique and titled after the source of inspiration for the piece. She is constantly striving to push the clay further and further which brings about unique and unexpected results that are inspiring to work with.
