Using a unique approach that incorporates watercolors, melted wax and rice paper, Cecile Cuddihy creates batik paintings that capture the inspiring landscapes and natural elements of the Pacific Northwest. Cecile has lived in Washington and Oregon for over 18 years, and the beauty of the region has been a major influence on her work. Initially trained as an architect, she has been enthusiastically pursuing her career in art for the past five years, and finds that she draws on her architectural training in unexpected ways. Batik requires both planning and spontaneity, and her pieces reflect interesting compositions, details and textures as well as many layers of color. Cecile’s award winning work has been in both juried, group and solo shows in Bend and Yakima, Washington. She has taught in the Larson Gallery summer workshop series and received a Washington state travel grant to study with Els Van Baarle of the Netherlands.
